Triangle pose in the hospital corridor.
Some of you will know that since 2020 (yep the year of the plague), my life took somewhat of some sharp corners. Now some of the changes were led by me and had to happen for a positive (lighter) future, some of them were completely out of my control.
2021 was the year that both my parents became classed as disabled and my both parents mental and physical health took an extreme drop. At one point I was driving up the motorway from Gloucestershire as my sister told me ‘I might have to say goodbye’.
Now, imagine what that does to your nervous system and knowing that I was helpless living 3 hours down the motorway. Why am I telling you this?? What has this got to do with Yoga? Well, during this turbulent time - Yoga (and my support network) got me through. I can tell you as well that it had nothing to do with asana, or movement. Let’s be honest…is dropped down and doing triangle post in the hospital corridor really going to help you? Maybe. But for me, it was BREATHING, I don’t know why I’m shouting that as it should be smaller. Breathing into my belly every morning or whenever I needed it was my lifeline. Literally and non.
So you see I will always weave breathwork or belly breathing into my classes somehow.
Because when you need it, when life shoves you head first into the washing machine of life, you might just need it.
